Football in Romania

Romanian football is most watched sport in the country. It first division 1.Liga is founded in 1909 year. Now football in Romania and Romanian National football team are governed by Romanian Football Federation established in same year as 1.Liga and is member of UEFA. National Football team of Romania played his first official match in 19922 year. Till now best result in FIFA World Cup is reaching quarter-finals in 1994 year. In UEFA European Championship the national team has same achievement as FIFA World Cup namely reaching quarter finals in 2000 year. Romania is ranked in 27th place in FIFA all-time table.

The Romanian football system contains three football leagues built by professional football teams. Highest football division in Romania is named 1.Liga and contains 14 professional football clubs. Next is second-highest league – Liga II with 20 clubs and at the end is third-highest football league – Liga III with eighty clubs divided in five different groups.
