Gold Cup
CONCACAF Gold Cup is an international football tournament between national teams of countries which are registered in CONCACAF ( Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football). CONCACAF Gold Cup is founded in 1961 year and is held in every two years. There is two phases of tournament: 1st phase is group phase, 2nd phase – knockout phase. In group phase enters 16 clubs divided in 4 groups with 4 clubs each.
1st phase - in group stage clubs are split in 4 groups with 4 clubs each. Each club play against every other team from it`s group. Clubs are ranked in table according to points they won in group matches, goal difference, number of goals scored. At the end of the group stage, first two teams from their groups, advance to knockout phase.
2nd pahse – this is a knockout phase. It consist quarter finals, semi finals, final for third place and the final. All finals are single elimination matches. If the result is draw in regular time, then the match continues with 2 extra times, and if it`s still draw – penalties to determine which team advance in next stage.
Mexico is the nation with most Gold Cups won – 7, followed by USA – 6 titles ad Canada – 1 title.
